Bonobos, a Japanese dub band from Osaka, was formed in August 2001 by Chunho Sai on guitar and vocals. The initial lineup also included Yasuyuki "Kojiro" Sasaki on lead guitar, Izumi Matsui on percussion, Bondo Tsuji on drums, and Natsuko Morimoto on bass. Their first full-length album, Hover Hover, was released in 2004, marking their debut in the music scene. The band's early releases included the extended play (EP) Golden Days in 2005 and the single "Standing There〜いま、そこに行くよ〜" in November 2006.
Throughout their career, Bonobos released several notable albums including Electlyric (2005), あ,うん (a, un) (2006), オリハルコン日和 (Orihalcon Biyori) (2009), and Ultra (2011). Their final album, .jp, was released in 2022. The band's lineup evolved over the years, with Ryuhei Koike joining as lead guitarist in 2015, along with Yuji Tanaka on keyboards and Hirowatari Uemoto on drums. In 2022, Bonobos announced their disbandment, which took effect in March 2023 following two farewell performances in Osaka and Tokyo. The band's discography also includes the compilation album Pastrama –best of bonobos- (2008), which showcased their extensive body of work. Their final lineup consisted of Chunho Sai on lead vocals and guitar, Natsuko Morimoto on bass, Ryuhei Koike on lead guitar, Yuji Tanaka on keyboards, and Hirowatari Uemoto on drums.
