André Goudbeek, born in 1946 in Zwolle, the Netherlands, is a Dutch/Belgian improvisation musician and composer known for his work on alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and bandoneon. He received classical violin lessons during his childhood and pursued both violin and saxophone at Gent University from 1965 to 1969. Goudbeek co-founded the Working Group of Improvising Musicians (WIM) in 1973. He was also a member of The Brotherhood of Breath in the early 1980s and performed at Jazz Middelheim in 1981. From 1982 to 1994, he was part of the Willem Breuker Kollektief. In 1995, Goudbeek composed a soundtrack for Robert Flaherty's silent film Nanook of the North, which led to an extensive tour with the Nanook Quartet. He collaborated with various jazz and improvisation musicians, including Phil Minton, with whom he released "As It Happened" in 1998.
