Rising to prominence under the mentorship of record producer and Cutting Records co-founder Aldo Marin, Manhattan-born freestyle singer Corina (born Corina Katt Ayala) emerged in 1987 with her debut single, “Out of Control”. While the track did not chart, it built momentum around the Puerto Rican musician’s name, culminating in her first Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play charting single, “Give Me Back My Heart”, the following year. After releasing another non-album single, “Loving You Like Crazy”, and co-starring in the 1990 comedy East Side Story, she returned in 1991 with her biggest hit, “Temptation”, which reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and also entered the top 40 in Canada. The track served as the lead single from her self-titled debut LP, which was released via ATCO Records in August 1991 and also contained the minor chart successes “Whispers” and “Now That You’re Gone”. After a quiet spell, Ayala returned in 1997 with a cover of Nocera’s “Summertime Summertime”, which peaked at number 86 on the Hot 100. Once again suspending her musical output while she acted in films like Cradle Will Rock, Doors of the Unknown, Big Apple and Funny Valentine, she has since re-emerged sporadically with new material in the 21st century, releasing three standalone singles: 2005’s “Master and Servant”, 2009’s “Run Away” and 2011’s “Aunque Me Duela”.
