PapaNegro, a Chilean funk band formed in 1998, gained initial recognition by winning Chile's prestigious youth festival for bands in 2000, which led to increased media attention and live performances. In 2003, they released their debut album SuperActivo, which featured notable singles like "Wokman" and "Todo está bien" and was nominated for Best Album of the Year at the Altazor Awards. In 2005, PapaNegro released Compacto. In 2007, they released 7, a unique project combining music and visual art, distributed freely online, and was downloaded over 30,000 times. In 2009, the band released Placer Automático. In 2017, the band entered an indefinite hiatus and announced their return on stage in December 2025.
