Jasper Somsen, born on March 4, 1973, in Bennekom, Netherlands, is a Dutch jazz bassist and composer. He studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, earning master's degrees in both jazz and classical bass. Somsen began his professional career collaborating with notable musicians such as Peter Erskine, Joey Calderazzo, and Jeff Ballard. In 2010, he released his debut album Dreams, Thoughts & Poetry, featuring music by Enrico Pieranunzi. Over the years, Somsen has led various ensembles, including the Jasper Somsen Synergy Trio and collaborative projects with Enrico Pieranunzi and Jorge Rossy. He has also contributed to numerous film scores since 2001 and has been involved in several acclaimed albums, such as Traveller’s Ways (2024) and Close to Me by Maria Mendes, which won an Edison Award in 2020.
