Khan Shushinski, born Isfandiyar Aslan oglu Javanshir on August 20, 1901, in Shusha, Azerbaijan, was a notable khananda folk singer. His stage name originated from impressing guests by re-singing a complex mugham piece live at a wedding during his adolescence. Shushinski debuted in Baku in 1923 and spent two decades touring the South Caucasus, gaining popularity. In 1944, he performed for Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in Tehran. Throughout his career, Shushinski composed several songs, including "Shushanin daghlari" ("The Mountains of Shusha"). He was awarded the title People's Artist of Azerbaijan SSR in 1943 and received the Order of the Badge of Honour in 1959. Shushinski passed away on March 18, 1979, leaving behind a lasting legacy, including the Khan Shushinsky Foundation.
