50 Foot Wave is an American alternative rock trio formed in 2003 by Kristin Hersh, alongside drummer Rob Ahlers and bassist Bernard Georges. Hersh, previously known for her work with Throwing Muses, founded the group as a heavier, guitar-driven project. Their debut mini-album 50 Foot Wave was released in 2004 on Throwing Music/4AD, followed the same year by Live in Seattle. In 2005, they issued Golden Ocean, which includes tracks such as "Sally Is a Girl" and "Bone China", and toured in both Europe and the United States. That same year, the band released the EP Free Music! under a Creative Commons license. Later releases include Power + Light (2009), With Love from the Men’s Room (2012), and Black Pearl (2022), the latter issued via Fire Records.
