After completing her Abitur, she worked as a record shop clerk and sang with the amateur club Alsterspatzen, gaining early experience in performance. In 1963, she won a Schlager competition at the Bahrenfelder Forsthaus, which led to a contract with Polydor in 1964. Her first single, "Beim Bossa Nova küßt man nicht", released in March 1964, entered the German Musikmarkt Top 50 at position 47. The same year, she released "My Boy Lollipop", a cover of the 1956 hit, which reached the Musikmarkt Top 50 and remained on the chart for six weeks, marking her highest chart placement. In 1967, Bachert switched to Metronome, where she recorded a single before her recording activity ceased. Between the late 1960s and 2000, she was a member of the band Newborn for eight years before withdrawing from the stage due to health issues.
