Pierce Turner, born in 1956 in Wexford, Ireland, is a folk musician known for his distinctive voice and songwriting. Raised in a musically inclined family, Turner began playing the tin whistle at age seven and joined an orchestra by eight. His professional career started with The Arrows before moving to New York where he formed The Major Thinkers with Larry Kirwan. Turner's solo debut, It’s Only A Long Way Across (1987), produced by Philip Glass, was nominated for Best First Album of an Independent Label at the New York Music Awards. He followed this with The Sky And The Ground (1989) and Now Is Heaven (1991). Turner's work has been featured in films like Snakes and Ladders. In 2007, he embarked on the Parlour Tour, performing in private homes across Ireland. His later albums include Songs for a veRRy small OrchestRa (2012) and Vinegar Hill (2019).
