Mikhail Jefimowitsch Alperin, known professionally as Misha Alperin, was born on November 7, 1956, in Kamenez-Podolski, Ukrainian SSR. He completed a classical piano study by 1976 and began working as an arranger, composer, and musician from 1977. In 1980, Alperin co-founded one of the first Moldavian jazz bands with Simon Shirman, focusing on blending jazz and folk elements. He collaborated with Arkady Shilkloper, releasing Waves of Sorrow in 1989. The duo later expanded to include Sergei Starostin, forming the Moscow Art Trio, which released several albums and performed at international festivals. Alperin moved to Norway in 1993, where he taught piano at the Music Academy Oslo. He passed away on May 11, 2018, in Oslo after a long battle with cancer.
