Honi Gordon is an American jazz singer born on August 16, 1938. She was the daughter of George Gordon Sr and performed as a member of the vocal ensemble The Gordons with her father and brothers. In 1953, she participated in recordings for Charles Mingus’ label Debut, performing as the lead vocalist on the tracks “Cupid” and “Can You Blame Me”. She recorded with musicians including Lionel Hampton in 1956 and Dizzy Gillespie in 1957. In March 1962, she released her debut solo studio recording, Honi Gordon Sings, which featured the tracks “Strollin'” and “Ill Wind”. Gordon collaborated with Mary Lou Williams on the recording Black Christ of the Andes (1963) and performed at Carnegie Hall in 1967. She appeared on the albums Charles Mingus and Friends in Concert (1972) and Mingus Moves (1973). In 2007, she performed at a memorial service for Williams.
