Les Frères Guissé is a Senegalese musical group from the Fouta Tooro region, consisting of brothers Djiby Guissé, Cheikh Guissé, and Alioune Guissé. The ensemble performs a style known as Pekaan, which is deeply connected to the cultural traditions of the Senegal River. Officially beginning their professional career in 1995, the trio achieved early international recognition by winning an award at the Festival d’été de Québec in 1997. The group is known for socially engaged lyrics that include accusations against child labor and the oppression of women. Their discography includes the 2003 debut album Fouta, recorded with the Paul van Kemenade Quintet, followed by Siré in 2005. In 2007, they collaborated with Leoni Jansen on the album Nina and launched a tour in the Netherlands starting at the Festival Mundial. The trio continued their recording career with the 2008 release of Yakaar. Throughout their journey, the band has participated in numerous international festivals, showcasing their unique blend of Senegalese and world music.
