Tabaré Etcheverry (born José Francisco Etcheverry Tort; April 28 or October 28, 1945 – April 21, 1978) was a Uruguayan folk and traditional music singer, composer, and guitarist from Melo. Etcheverry co-founded the groups Los Pilareños and Los Caribe before relocating to Montevideo, where he performed in the duo Los del Ceibal. As a solo artist, Etcheverry performed with Alfredo Zitarrosa and Los Olimareños. In 1969, he released the EP Él es uno de nosotros - Tabaré Etcheverry le canta a José Artigas, featuring the song “1815”. In 1972, he recorded the album Crónica de hombres libres with actor Alberto Candeau; the record was prohibited by the military government until its reissue in 1984. His discography includes Un chasque de amor (1974) and Cuando se piensa volver (1976). Etcheverry died of cancer in Montevideo on April 21, 1978.
