Javier Torres Maldonado, born in 1968 in Chetumal, Mexico, is a composer known for his orchestral, chamber, vocal, and electro-acoustic works. He studied violin and composition at the Mexico City Conservatory and later at Milan's "G. Verdi" Conservatory under Franco Donatoni, Sandro Gorli, and Alessandro Solbiati. Torres Maldonado earned a diploma in electronic music from the G. Verdi Conservatory in 2003. His work "Exabrupto" (1998) is notable for its complex transitions and tribute to Mexican Indians assassinated in Acteal, Chiapas. He has received numerous honors, including the Commande d'Etat by the French Ministry of Culture in 2007 and the "Reine Elisabeth" prize in Brussels in 2004. His compositions have been commissioned by prestigious festivals worldwide, such as the Mozart Week in Salzburg and the Biennale of Venice. Torres Maldonado has also served as a professor at various conservatories, including the Conservatoire "G. Verdi" of Milan.
