English new wave band Tonight, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, formed in June 1977. The group consisted of Chris Turner on lead vocals and songwriting, Phil Chambon on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Dave Cook on lead guitar, Russ Strothard on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Gary Thompson on drums. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut single "Drummer Man" in February 1978, which reached number 14 in the UK Singles Chart. This success marked Tonight as one of the first acts to be described as power pop, a new genre term coined by Charles Catchpole in the Evening Standard's 'Rock Notes' section on January 17, 1978. Following "Drummer Man", Tonight released their next single "Money (That's Your Problem)", which charted at number 66. Despite these releases and an album recorded during their active years, lack of further chart success led to the band disbanding in January 1979. Their previously unreleased album Drummerman was finally issued in 2010 by Angel Air Records, having been shelved by WEA in 1978.
