Andrés do Barro was a Galician singer-songwriter born Andrés Lapique do Barro on October 1, 1947, in Ferrol. He studied in the Merchant Navy before devoting himself to a music career characterized by stories of his homeland. Do Barro became famous as the first artist to reach Number 1 in Spain with songs written in Galician, a distinction he held alone until 2019. His recording career featured the 1970 single “O tren”, which included Camilo Sesto on backing vocals. His discography included the albums Me llamo Andrés Lapique do Barro (1970), ¡Pum! (1971), and Andrés do Barro (1974). He achieved four Number 1 hits on the Spanish charts with the songs “O tren”, “Corpiño xeitoso”, “San Antón”, and “Pandeirada”. Additionally, he starred in the 1971 film En la red de mi canción. After emigrating to Mexico in 1976, he returned to Spain and died of liver cancer on December 22, 1989, in Madrid.
