Osaka Popstar, a punk rock supergroup formed in 2006 by New Yorker John Cafiero. The band released their debut album Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk on May 23, 2006, featuring lyrics referencing Japanese anime characters like Astroboy and Sailor Moon. Their first single off the album was a cover of Daniel Johnston's "Wicked World". In 2006, Osaka Popstar toured with the Misfits during Fiend Fest '06 across multiple countries. In 2008, they released a live EP titled Rock 'em O-Sock 'em Live. Notable works include a cover of Fugazi's "Waiting Room" with Juicehead in 2012 and backing "Weird Al" Yankovic on a tribute album cover of the Ramones' song "Beat on the Brat" in 2017.
