The Crash was a Finnish pop‑rock group formed in Turku, Finland, in 1991 by Teemu Brunila and Samuli Haataja, with Erkki Kaila on drums and Dani Aavinen on bass; later keyboardist Toni Ahola joined after the name change to The Crash in 1998. Their breakthrough came with the single "Lauren Caught My Eye" in 2002, which became the first Finnish video to receive extensive MTV play. The band released Comfort Deluxe (1999), Wildlife (2001), and Melodrama (2003), achieving a peak of Number 2 on the Finnish charts with Melodrama and securing a nomination for Best Nordic Artist at the 2002 MTV Europe Awards in Barcelona. In 2005 the group performed at SXSW, the Viper Room, and CBGB’s, and later released Pony Ride in 2006, entering the Finnish chart at Number 2; the single "Reasons To Sing" featured on Gossip Girl in 2008. After signing with Rubber Records and Rykodisc for international releases, The Crash announced a split in April 2009, concluding with a farewell show at Ruisrock on 5 July 2009, the same day the band’s final performance occurred. The Crash’s career is noted for cross‑European touring, chart success, and early MTV exposure, marking a significant period in Finnish pop‑rock history.
