Narek Hakhnazaryan, born on October 23, 1988 in Yerevan, Armenia, is a cellist. He began studying cello at age six and later moved to Moscow with his mother. In 2006, he was admitted to the Moscow Conservatory. Hakhnazaryan won the first prize at the Aram Khachaturian International Competition in Armenia. He made his debut at New York's Carnegie Hall and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., after winning both the Johansen International Competition for Young String Players and the International Auditions of the Young Concert Artists in 2008. In 2011, he secured a gold medal in the Tchaikovsky International Competition. He was named a BBC New Generation Artist in 2014.
