Solmania, a Japanese noise project founded in 1984 by Masahiko Ohno, was known for its experimental approach to electronic music, jazz, and rock. Ohno gained recognition for his self-built and modified electric guitars and effect pedals. In the late 1980s, Solmania embarked on a North America tour, increasing their visibility in the United States. Solmania released several albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including Gakinoizz (1984), H·A·D·A·Y·R·O (1985), Vexation (1985), Wörkenemy (1985), and Evil Bed (1996). In the 1990s, Katsumi Sugahara joined the project. Solmania's unique instruments were highlighted in various guitar magazines. The project's music was also featured in Thurston Moore's remix of Yoko Ono's "Rising". In 2013, a comprehensive box set titled The Basement Tapes and Discs was released by Youth Inc., followed by notable albums such as Kill (2016) and Solmania (2017).
