Las Hijas Del Sol, a group from Equatorial Guinea consisting of Piruchi Apo Botupá and her niece Paloma Loribo Apo, known artistically as Paloma del Sol, both hailing from Bioko Island. The duo began their musical journey in 1992 by winning awards for best original song and choreography at a competition held at the Hispanic-Guinean Cultural Center. Their breakthrough came with the release of Sibèba (1995), a blend of traditional bubi music and their own compositions, which topped Folk Roots' annual list in 1995. The album was released internationally, including Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan. In 2003, they released Colores Del Amor, followed by Vivir Esta Locura (2004). Las Hijas del Sol achieved commercial success with "Ay! Corazón" in 2001, reaching Number 1 on Los 40 Principales. They also participated in the film Pecata minuta (1999) and performed at the Expo de Sevilla and OTI Festival (formerly the Ibero-American Song Grand Prix) in 1992.
