Graham Keith Gouldman was born on 10 May 1946 in Broughton, Salford, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. He began playing guitar at eleven and soon joined local Manchester bands, eventually signing a contract with His Master’s Voice in 1964 for a single of "Look at Me".Gouldman’s breakthrough came as a freelance songwriter in the mid‑1960s, penning UK chart hits such as "For Your Love" for the Yardbirds, "Bus Stop" for the Hollies and "No Milk Today" for Herman’s Hermits. In 1968 he released his debut solo album The Graham Gouldman Thing, followed by the soundtrack Animalympics (1980). His most enduring success emerged with the art‑rock band 10cc, of which he has been the sole constant member since 1972. The band achieved three UK Number 1 singles, including "I'm Not in Love" (1975), and released ten studio albums, the last being Mirror Mirror (1995). Gouldman continued to record solo albums-Love and Work (2012), Modesty Forbids (2020) and I Have Notes (2024)-and collaborated with artists such as Ringo Starr and Andrew Gold. In 2014 he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and his songwriting catalog remains a staple of 20th‑century pop and rock.
