200.000 Naglbítar, an Icelandic rock band originating from Akureyri, formed in 1993. The group gained early recognition by participating in the Músíktilraunir music contest in 1995, where vocalist Vilhelm Anton was awarded best singer. In 1998, they released their debut album Neóndýrin, which received positive reviews from Morgunblaðið. Their subsequent albums included Vögguvísur fyrir skuggaprins in 2000 and Hjartagull in 2003. The latter was nominated for Best Pop Album at the Íslensku tónlistarverðlaunin awards, with "Láttu mig vera" receiving a nomination for Best Pop Song. In 2003, "Láttu mig vera" became the most played Icelandic song on Rás 2 radio station. The band also performed at the Iceland Airwaves festival in 2003.
