Guachupé was a Chilean band that blended ska, rock latino, and cumbia, formed at the end of 1994 in Santiago de Chile by Tomás Maldonado, Robinson Acuña, and brothers Nelson and Rodrigo Alveal. Their active musical period started in 1999. They began composing songs in Maipú and released their debut album Estamos todos en la trampa in 2007. The band gained significant traction performing at major festivals such as Cosquín Rock in 2008 and the Cumbre del Rock Chileno in 2009. Their second album La triste realidad was released in 2010, further solidifying their popularity. Tragedy struck in 2012 when Luis Adriazola, known as Lucho "Ardilla," died in a motorcycle accident. The band continued, releasing El Club del Amigo in 2014 and celebrating their 15th anniversary with a sold-out concert at Teatro Caupolicán. Guachupé announced an indefinite musical hiatus in 2020.
