John Angaiak, a Yup'ik musician and author, was born on December 7, 1941 in Nightmute, Alaska. After serving in the Vietnam War, he enrolled at the University of Alaska Fairbanks where he became involved with the Eskimo Language Workshop, focusing on preserving his native language. Angaiak's first single "Nasaureluma / Akʼa Tamaani" was released in 1970 and his first album, I’m Lost in the City, followed in 1971 and featured half its tracks sung in Yup'ik. The album gained local success but remained obscure until it was reissued by Light in the Attic Records sub-label Future Days in 2016. Some of its tracks were also included on Native North America, Vol. 1 (2014). In 2022, he released the EP Vancouver Session Plus.
