Eileen Farrell was born on 13 February 1920 in Willimantic, Connecticut, and became an American soprano noted for both classical and popular repertoire. She began her career as a member of the CBS Chorus in 1940, and a year later launched her own radio program, Eileen Farrell Sings, which ran until 1946 and featured collaborations with artists such as Frank Sinatra and Risë Stevens. In 1947, she transitioned to concert work, touring the United States and South America. Farrell debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in 1960, where she performed until 1966, including roles in Alceste and Andrea Chénier. She continued to record both classical and popular albums, including Eileen Farrell Sings Torch Songs (1990) and I've Got the Right to Sing the Blues (1959 & 1961). Farrell died on 23 March 2002 in New Jersey.
