John Yuan, born 袁惟仁 on 24 June 1968 in Taiwan, began his career as a songwriter and composer before stepping into the spotlight as a singer. His breakthrough came with the 1991 single "Cuckoo's Dusk" with Mo Fan, which established him as a notable figure in Mandopop. Yuan released the self‑titled album Yuan Wei Jen in 2000, followed by the album You Don't Know Me (你不知道的我)in 2005 and the album Acoustic Guitar (木吉他) in 2014, each showcasing his versatile pop style. He penned hits for leading artists such as Faye Wong ("Zhimi Buhui"), Na Ying ("Zhengfu"), and Sammi Cheng ("Beipan"), earning multiple industry awards. Despite injuries in 2018 and 2020, Yuan continued to influence the scene until his death on 2 February 2026 at age 57.
