Shin Hyo-bum, born on January 18, 1966, in Gapyeong, is a renowned Korean ballad singer. She debuted after winning the gold prize with the song "Your Shadow" at the second MBC Rookie Song Festival in 1988. In 1989, she officially her debut with her first full album Shin Hyo Bum. Some of her most famous songs include "Always Right There" (1991), "I Love You" (1994), and "I Knew I Would Love You" (2006). Shin is sometimes called "Korea’s Whitney Houston" for her exceptional vocal talent. Known for her powerful voice and precise control of dynamics, she delivers piercing high notes that leave a strong impression. As she aged, her power slightly diminished, but she perfected breath control and vocal regulation, able to effortlessly adjust vocal tone and breath within a single phrase, even transforming the vocal texture. In 2020, the song "I Knew I Would Love You," sung by Jeon Mido in tvN’s drama Hospital Playlist, gained widespread love for its beautiful lyrics and lyrical melody, bringing renewed attention to the original singer Shin Hyo-bum. The cover by Jeon Mido topped various music charts, and inevitably, Shin Hyo-bum’s original version also experienced a chart resurgence. In 2023, as a member of Golden Girls, a program depicting the journey of four top, legendary Korean vocalists (In Soon-i, Park Mi-kyung, Shin Hyo-bum, and Lee Eun-mi) making a comeback as a girl group, working together under the production of Korea's top K-pop producer, JYP, Shin's presence was once again highly appreciated and re-evaluated.
