Queen of Japan is a German synthpop trio from Munich formed in 1999. The group consists of vocalist Catriona Shaw (Koneko), guitarist Hans Platzgumer (Jo Ashito), and bassist Albert Pöschl (Jason Arigato). They achieved professional recognition for their synthpop and new wave covers of hits from the 1970s and 1980s, debuting with the extended play Mercury Rising (1999). Their recording career includes cover versions of “I Love Rock 'n' Roll” and “Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?” which appeared on various compilations. Their version of the track “I Was Made for Loving You” (2000) was featured in the short film Icicle Melt. The trio released the studio albums Nightlife in Tokyo (2001), Headrush (2002), and Kings, Queens, Wasps & Lust (2003). They followed these with the studio recording Foreign Politics (2004). Their music has been featured at Fashion Week events and remixed by DJ Keoki.
