Juan Carlos Fontana, professionally known as Mono Fontana, was born on November 8, 1959, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began his professional music career at age 10 and, at 12, co-founded the band Madre Atómica with Lito Epumer, later joined by Pedro Aznar. Between 1977 and 1980, Fontana was a member of Nito Mestre y Los Desconocidos de Siempre, performing first as a drummer and later as a pianist. From 1983 to 1991, he worked with Luis Alberto Spinetta in Spinetta Jade and subsequent projects, contributing to six albums. In 1998, Fontana released his first solo album, Ciruelo. Throughout his career, he collaborated as a multi-instrumentalist with numerous artists, including León Gieco, Fito Páez, Alfredo Casero, Pedro Aznar, and Divididos. In 2024, he was declared an Outstanding Personality of the City of Buenos Aires by the Buenos Aires City Legislature in recognition of his contributions to music.
