Quatuor Via Nova originated from musicians who met during the Festival de Cyrne Arte on Corsica between 1964 and 1968. They adopted the name Quatuor Via Nova in 1968 and gained support from the French Ministry of Culture starting in 1976. They performed both classical string quartet repertoire and lesser-known works by composers such as Ernest Chausson, Albert Roussel, and André Caplet. They collaborated with notable musicians including Lily Laskine, Maurice Gendron, Pierre Fournier, Isaac Stern, Mstislaw Rostropowitsch, and Yehudi Menuhin. Quatuor Via Nova received numerous awards, such as the Grand Prix du Disque Français and Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros.
