Yuta Bandoh, also known as Taku Matsushiba, born on January 25, 1991, in Osaka, Japan is a Japanese composer. Learning the piano at age of three, Bandoh initially aspired to become an architect or a film director, until his piano teacher encouraged him to pursue composition in the sixth grade and he attended the affiliated music high school of Tokyo University of the Arts, where he honed his skills in composition. His talent was recognized early on when he secured third place in the composition category of the 83rd Japan Music Competition in 2014 and received the prestigious 25th Akutagawa Composition Award in 2015. In 2016, he founded and led Ensemble FOVE, marking a significant milestone in his career. That same year, he collaborated with Taro Umebayashi on the popular anime series Yuri on Ice, contributing to Poupelle of Chimney Town in 2020. In 2022, he received the Outstanding Achievement in Music award at the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize for his work on the film Belle (2021), collaborating with Hikaru Utada on "Beautiful World (Da Capo Version)" the same year. In 2023, Bandoh composed "Spinning Globe" for Studio Ghibli's Academy Award-winning film The Boy and the Heron. Continuing his streak of success, he returned in 2024 with the theme for the anime Kaiju No. 8, which climbed into the Top 100 Hot Songs on the JWAVE charts in July.
