Foyer des Arts, a German avant-garde pop band, was founded in 1981 by Max Goldt and Gerd Pasemann. The duo met in West Berlin in 1978 through an advertisement in a local magazine and initially formed the band Aroma Plus, releasing two self-distributed records with varying musicians before disbanding in 1981. Under the name Foyer des Arts, they recorded their first album Die seltsame Sekretärin, which included the single "Eine Königin mit Rädern untendran" that gained local popularity and attracted the attention of WEA Records. In 1982, Foyer des Arts signed with WEA and released their second album Von Bullerbü nach Babylon. The single "Wissenswertes über Erlangen" from this album reached Number 36 on the Media Control Charts. Despite promotional efforts, including appearances on the ZDF Hitparade, commercial success was limited. WEA eventually put Foyer des Arts on hold by refusing to release further albums until 1986. During this period, Goldt released solo recordings. After their contract ended in 1986, the band released Die Unfähigkeit zu frühstücken on an independent label and gained underground success. They were invited to perform at John Peel Sessions in 1988, which was later released as an EP in 2022. The band's final album, Die Menschen, was released in 1995.
