Black Jesus Experience is an Australian musical group formed in Melbourne in 2009, blending traditional Ethiopian music with hip-hop and funk. The nine-piece Ethio-jazz band gained recognition through collaborations with Mulatu Astatke and their independent discography. Their breakthrough moment came in June 2009 when they appeared on a segment of Sunday Arts, broadcast nationally by ABC-TV. In 2010, Black Jesus Experience won The Age's Best Tour award for their Australian tour with Astatke. They have performed at numerous festivals including Glastonbury Festival and WOMADelaide. Their fourth album, Migration, received the Best Global/Reggae Album accolade at The Age's 2014 Music Victoria Awards. In 2016, they released their fifth studio album, Cradle of Humanity. On July 3, 2020, Black Jesus Experience released their second collaborative album with Mulatu Astatke entitled To Know Without Knowing.
