This singer had two careers. The first on the Okeh label, where he enjoyed immediate success with the specialist public. The second was with Atlantic, where his modern version of the classic C.C. Rider, later covered by Elvis Presley*, propelled him to the top of the charts in 1957. His plaintive voice and natural elegance made him one of the most endearing performers of the pioneering rock era.
