Phil Sawyer was born in London on March 8, 1947. He began his music career in the 1960s as a guitarist and singer in bands such as Les Fleur de Lys, The Cheynes and Shotgun Express, in the latter with Mick Fleetwood and Rod Stewart. In 1967 he was a member of the Spencer Davis Group, replacing Steve Winwood and singing on songs such as "Don't Want You No More". He left the group in the same year and turned to composing, producing and classical music. In 1993, Phil Sawyer adopted the pseudonym Beautiful World after the success of his Timotei advertising music. Together with the Malcolm Sargent Festival Choir and vocalists such as Cori Josias, Ella Harper, Miriam Stockley and others, he released the album In Existence in 1994, which sold over a million copies in Europe, North America and Asia. The single "In The Beginning" reached number 14 in Germany in 1993 and remained in the charts for 38 weeks. The second Beautiful World album Forever followed in 1996, featuring more English-language songs and the track "Africa" with a choir part. The Beautiful World project operates in the new-age/world-lounge genre. Most recently, Phil Sawyer released a remastered new edition of In Existence in 2005.
