Svante Thuresson (7 February 1937 – 10 May 2021) was a Swedish jazz singer born in Sweden who began his musical journey as a drummer before joining the band Gals and Pals in 1963. His breakthrough came in 1966 when he won the national selection with "Nygammal vals" and represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing second. The single marked his entry into the public eye and led to a series of recordings for the Metronome label, including Ingen Sol Här Utan Dig (2007) and Solen I Maj (2007).Thuresson released a steady stream of albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s, such as Doktor Dolittle (1967), Nyanser (1969), and Albin och Greta (1970) with Lill Lindfors, before moving into the 1980s with Just in Time (1982) and the animated film soundtrack Pelle Svanslös (1986). In the 1990s he issued live recordings and compilations, including Bästa (1999) and Guldkorn (2000). A later collaboration with Anne‑Lie Rydé saw them perform as a duo at Melodifestivalen 2007, though they did not reach the final. Thuresson’s final releases were Svante Thuresson & Vänner (2007) and Regionala Nyheter: Stockholmsdelen (2011). He died in May 2021 after a long‑term illness, leaving a legacy of over four decades of jazz and pop recordings in Sweden.
