Colourmusic was formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 2005 by Ryan Hendrix and Nick Turner. The duo began their musical collaboration after meeting at Oklahoma State University in 1998. They started recording together in Hendrix's apartment, eventually recruiting Cory Suter as a drummer. The band evolved into a quintet with the addition of Nick Ley and Colin Fleishacker from The Bells Are... Colourmusic released several albums, including F, Monday, Orange, February, Venus, Lunatic, and 1 or 13 (2008). Their notable singles include "Yes!", which was released in 2009. The band is known for its whimsical and psych-folk stylings, often incorporating themes related to Isaac Newton’s Theory of Color and Sound. Colourmusic gained significant exposure by appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno during Wayne Coyne's Man on the Street segment at South by Southwest. They also opened for The Flaming Lips at Dfest 2007 and British Sea Power on their US tour.
