Gudrun Allwang, known professionally as Somersault, was born on December 30, 1969, in Germany. She studied physics before embarking on her music career. Somersault gained prominence in 2001 with her debut single "Way to Mars", a collaboration with Xavier Naidoo for the project Mittermeier & Friends. This single marked her breakthrough moment and led to further collaborations including the tracks "Make Me Laugh" and "Say Goodbye". Following the success of "Way to Mars", Somersault released her first solo album, By Your Side, in late 2003. Her subsequent albums include Paperwalls (May 2006) and The Solitude & Me (September 3, 2010). In addition to her music career, Gudrun Mittermeier has also worked as a Regieassistentin for her husband Michael Mittermeier's stage programs. Her song "Fade Away" served as the title track for the film Goethe!. She released several notable singles, including "Symphony" (2003) and "Break the Wave" (2006). She also released albums under her real name, Gudrun Mittermeier, including Mitternach (2016) and Seeheim (2020).
