Étant donnés is a French avant-garde, post-industrial, noise, and experimental music group formed in 1977 in France. The duo consists of the brothers Éric Hurtado and Marc Hurtado. Their early recordings include the cassette La Vue (1981) and the album Plutôt l’exil du cinq doré (1983). Their debut vinyl album, Le Sens Positif (1987), was followed by the recordings Aurore (1990), Royaume (1991), and Bleu (1993). The ensemble collaborated with musicians including Alan Vega, Michael Gira, and Genesis P-Orridge for the albums Re-Up (1999) and Offenbarung und Untergang (1999). They provided the musical score for the film La Vie nouvelle (2003). Marc Hurtado also composed the music for the film Hotel by Jessica Hausner. In 2016, Marc Hurtado was the subject of a retrospective at La Cinémathèque française.
