Ghosts were an English indie pop band formed in Cranleigh in 2006, comprising Simon Pettigrew on vocals and guitar, Jonny Harris on drums, Robbie Smith on bass, and Mark Treasure on keyboard. The band's origins trace back to the mid-1990s when Pettigrew, Harris, and Treasure played together in various bands before forming Ghosts. Their debut single "Musical Chairs" was released in January 2007 as a limited edition 7", followed by their first proper single "Stay the Night", which gained significant national radio airplay. The band's debut album The World Is Outside was released in June 2007, reaching Number 18 on the charts. They toured extensively, including performances at London's Hyde Park Calling Festival and supporting Keane at O2 Arena. Despite plans to write a second album, legal issues with their label Atlantic Records stalled their progress. In May 2012, it was confirmed that Ghosts had split up after losing momentum and failing to secure new material that met their standards.
