Mass Production was an American funk/disco group formed in Norfolk, Virginia. The ten-piece ensemble consisted of Kevin "D'No" Douglas, James "Otiste" Drumgole, Agnes "Tiny" Kelly, George Jefferson, Larry Marshall, Gregory “Sagittarius” McCoy, Emmanuel Redding, Ricardo Williams, Tyrone Williams, Rodney Phelps and LeCoy Bryant. The band's initial breakthrough came with the release of their hit single "Firecracker" in 1979, which reached number 4 on the R&B chart. Following this success, Mass Production released a series of albums including Welcome to Our World (1976), Believe (1977), Three Miles High (1978), In the Purest Form (1979), Massterpiece (1980), Turn Up the Music (1981), and In a City Groove (1982). Notable songs from these albums include "Cosmic Lust", "Groove Me", "Shanté" and "Turn Up the Music". The band's popularity waned in the early 1980s, leading to their disbandment in 1983. Despite this, Mass Production has been recognized for their influence on later artists; notably, their song "Firecracker" was sampled by 2 Live Crew for their 1989 hit single "Me So Horny". The group reunited with the mostly original lineup in 2017 and has since recorded new material and performed live shows.
