Nocturnal Emissions is an English sound art and industrial project from Derbyshire formed in 1980. The group was established by Nigel Ayers, Danny Ayers, and Caroline K. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style incorporating musique concrète, noise, and dark ambient elements. They established the label Sterile Records in 1979 and released their debut studio recording, Tissue of Lies (1981). Their discography includes the studio recordings Fruiting Body (1981) and Drowning in a Sea of Bliss (1983), the latter being ranked among the 100 best albums of the 1980s by Fact magazine. Since 1984, the project has continued as Nigel Ayers' solo project. Their recording career includes the studio recordings The World is My Womb (1987) and Spiritflesh (1988). Between 1990 and 1992, the project collaborated on Butoh dance performances with choreographer Poppo Shiraishi.
