The Triangles formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 2003 when school friends Eleanor Horsburgh, Julie Conway, Katherine Simpson, Matt Gormann, and Robert Simpson began playing together. They released their first album, Waterfive, independently in 2003. Other albums released include Red Panda (2004) and Seventy-Five Year Plan. The song "Applejack" from their third album, Magic Johnson (2005, released by Half a Cow Records), became a regional hit. The band ostensibly split after the release of their second CD when several members left Australia. In 2010, they reformed to perform "Applejack" in a Spanish TV commercial for Estrella Damm, leading to the song reaching Number 1 on the Spanish iTunes singles chart.
