Cipher was an American hardcore punk band from Long Beach, New York, formed in 1996. The group's core lineup included Maurice "Moe" Mitchell, Chris Fry, Krys Maniecki, and the late Danny Bobis. Their early recordings featured rhythmic yells. Cipher addressed socio-political activism in releases including the EP Protoculture (1998) and the album Antidote (2001). In 2005, the band released the album Children of God's Fire (2005). Bobis died in 2011. The group resumed activity in 2014 and performed at the Afropunk Festival and the THIS IS HARDCORE festival in 2017.
