Freyda Epstein was an American folk musician born on November 30, 1956 in Boston, Massachusetts. She began her career as a singer and instrumentalist in the folk music scene of Elkins, West Virginia. Her early work included collaborations with Lorraine Duisit, Ralph Gordon, and Paul Reisler for Now and Then (1980) under Flying Fish Records. Epstein continued to build her discography with albums such as Another Country (1982), Cool of the Day (1985), and Midnight at Cabell Hall (1994). She also released Globalullabies under Music for Little People in 1995. Epstein was influential in various music communities, including those in central Virginia, Asheville, North Carolina, and Berkeley, California. She performed with groups like Trapezoid and Freyda & Acoustic AttaTude, and taught many local musicians. Tragically, Epstein died in a car accident on May 17, 2003, while traveling to a music gathering near Charlottesville, Virginia.
