Earth and Fire, a Dutch rock and pop band, were formed in November 1968 in Voorschoten by twin brothers Chris Koerts and Gerard Koerts. The band's early years were marked by frequent name changes and lineup adjustments, beginning as The Singing Twins and later evolving into The Swinging Strings. Their breakthrough came in 1970 with the release of their debut album Earth and Fire, which featured the hits "Seasons" and "Ruby Is the One". The band's initial success continued with singles such as "Memories" (released March 1972) and their first number-one, "Maybe Tomorrow, Maybe Tonight" (1973). As the Dutch musical landscape shifted towards disco, punk, and new wave in the late 1970s, Earth and Fire adapted to a more mainstream sound. Their biggest hit during this era was "Weekend" (released 1979), which topped the charts in multiple countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal, and Switzerland. The band disbanded in 1983 and reunited briefly in 1987 before disbanding again. Lead singer Jerney Kaagman later pursued a solo career and became a judge on the Dutch version of Idols. Chris Koerts left the band in 1979, and Gerard Koerts passed away in 2019.
