George Edward Bruns was an American composer of music for film and television, particularly known for his work for Walt Disney Studios. He began studying piano at a young age and went on to learn multiple instruments. After attending Oregon State University, he worked as a professional musician and bandleader before relocating to Los Angeles in the late 1940s. In 1953, Bruns joined Walt Disney Studios as an arranger and later became the studio’s music director, a position he held until his retirement in 1976. He composed or contributed to the scores of numerous films, including Sleeping Beauty (1959), One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), and The Sword in the Stone (1963). Bruns received four Academy Award nominations for his work on Disney productions, including for Sleeping Beauty. He died on May 23, 1983, in Portland, Oregon.
