Matthew Strachan, born on December 11, 1970, in the United Kingdom, was an English composer and singer-songwriter. He began writing songs as a teenager, and his first professional job was composing five tracks for the BBC TV drama Boogie Outlaws. After studying at Dartington College of Arts and Goldsmiths College, University of London, Strachan worked as a soundtrack composer throughout the 1990s. His breakthrough came with the music for the British television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, co-written with his father, Keith, which became a global franchise. He won twelve awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and received the ASCAP Hall of Fame Award in 2012. Strachan released several albums, including Serious Men in 2016 and A Quiet Place I’ve Waited in 2017. He died on September 22, 2021, at his home in Twickenham, London.
