Susan Brice, born 16 March 1971 in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, is an English singer and songwriter who performs under the name Coco. Brice began writing and performing songs at age twelve and recorded her first track when she was fifteen. She studied fashion and textiles at the University of the West of England, Bristol, while meeting producers Jody Wisternoff, Massive Attack and Tricky, which helped refine her live performances and songwriting. In 1994 she signed a development deal with Universal MCA Music Publishing, working with Paul Connolly and receiving vocal coaching from Whitney Houston’s trainer; she also studied dance at Pineapple Dance Studios. Her first major single, "I Need A Miracle", was released in 1997 and entered the UK charts at number 39 after a live debut at Pacha, Ibiza. The track later became the foundation of the worldwide Number 1 mashup "Toca's Miracle" in 2000, a collaboration with Fragma that sold over 500,000 copies in the UK and topped charts in fourteen countries. Throughout the 2000s Coco collaborated with Artful Dodger, Craig David, and DJ Smash, contributing vocals and songwriting to releases such as "It Ain't Enough" and "Get Over You". Her work remains influential in dance and pop circles, with continued releases and re‑issues of her signature tracks.
